“My paintings are inspired by my local landscape which reflect my fascination with place and identity. The lines, shapes and colours weave an intricate fabric of the lands’ narrative which never fails to excite me. ”

My name is Julie Avisar and I am primarily a landscape artist with drawing as my main medium. I was born in London and am now based in Israel.

Being in nature revitalises my senses and provides me with my greatest inspiration.  I have always been curious about the wonders of the natural world and every season’s unique personality from the texture of a desert plant to the colours of an autumnal forest.

With a degree in Interior Design from Chelsea College of Arts, London, my work, whatever the medium – drawing, graphic design, interior design - has reflected my interest in concepts of space and place and how we interact with them.

Recently, I discovered the oil pastel. For me, this medium is a combination of drawing and painting. Being able to hold the chunky crayon in my hand, I get to make the visceral marks that are a big part of my style. This, along with their vibrant colours and ability to create layers make them a perfect union. I am interested in creating intimate and dream-like scenes which draw the viewer into another world.

Having trained and worked as an interior designer I appreciate the effect the right piece of art can have on a space. Collaborating with architects and designers, I can create commissioned pieces that resonate with the style of the room as well as complementing the desired color palette.

My intention is to evoke a spirited warmth, a sense of belonging and bring the magic of nature into people’s interiors.
